Question: Possible to bend a diamond wedding band to fit around engagement ring?
(Posted by: ♥ on 2010-01-07 07:34:25)
I got my engagement ring at Jared's, and it did not come with a wedding band. Jared said they would have to custom make one because I would need the band to bow out in a half circle. My ring is similar to the one below. http:/ / design.jared- diamonds.com/ engagement- rings/ settings- with- sidestones/ ring/ item_58- 5943.asp I went to Gordon's jewelers, and they showed me a flat, regular shaped band with diamonds around it. They said their master jeweler can bend the band (diamonds and all) into the shape I need it to be. Is that possible?? None of the other 10 stores I went to suggested that. They all said I would have to do custom. I feel like the diamonds would be loose and pop out. I like the idea because it's wayyy cheaper, but can you bend the band with diamonds in it? Thanks!! |

If you decide to get the band bent, then I would suggest you find out about the companies guarantee and liability rules. If they damage the ring, then they have to replace it. So find out about that first. |

I think they will only bend the back 50% where there are no diamonds. It may be they will put in more metal there in order that it will still fit afterwards. |

That's a very sweet ring. No! You absolutely cannot bend a set ring to suit your preferences as such. To even attempt it, would compromise the quality of the ring and in fact, the stones would have to be reset anyway. It seems so foolish and absolutely wrong. It may cost more, but you're looking at a lifelong commitment and something you'll see everyday of your life. Sometimes in life, we deserve the best and this is one of those times for you. I've been a jeweler for many years and in good conscience I would never do that for you, even if meant losing a sale. |
