I am not sure about your question, but let's see if I got it. The item is 1/ 4 carat diamond in either gold or platinum - is that right? So, the diamond is the same, it is just the metal that you are concerned with. Platinum is more expensive and "better " in some people's minds. It lasts a long time as does gold and is a silvery color. Gold can be different levels of purity - usually 10, 14, 18 or 24 carat. 24 carat gold is pure gold and is very soft. Gold can be either yellow or white in color or even pink or greenish. I prefer gold because I like the gold (yellow) color. Many people prefer white gold, platinum or even silver. Get what you like. Either gold or platinum will last a long time. |

The main differences are that platinum is generally used in a purer form in jewellery than gold, and it's more expensive and durable (but all metals can be scratched, including platinum). It's considered harder to work with, but it's good for diamond settings. Although, gold is lighter than platinum and it costs less. Personally, I prefer the gold colour to the white, and gold can suit some complexions better than platinum. It's just a matter of choice really, pick whichever suits your taste and budget. |

Diamonds are graded in carats, which relates to it's physical size, gold standards are in carats, which relates to it's purity eg 9,14,18,22 and 24, platinum is more expensive than gold, precious metals do not loose or gain value, they are a standard, the value of money evolves round them, look in the money section of the times newspaper for confirmation. |
